Title: ARPD Theme progress

As you see, a theme has been released for the ARPD forum.

The progress that needs to be worked.

- Fix the child-board ICONS ☑ - Fix collapse Icon ☑ - Modify the ARFD logo ☑ - Fix some fonts ☑ (requires more time) - Style the bottom-footer - Add a clock - Fix the colours a bit on core sides - Reorganize the board structure

I'm looking for a blueish background for the ARPD if anyone is able to volunteer to make a stylish one in photoshop or so.

If you can provide a well styled background, i can consider it. I need it weeeeeeellllll suitable for the theme. And we will see if it fits good or not. :rules:
What i mean by background is the one that is currently here on what you see at the moment.

Most of the fonts are fixed, the rest is well suitable as arial. Such as rank and Users Online. But will finish it later..

To cut to the chase, let me start off by saying that compared to our last theme, this one is more of a downgrade. There are several issues that come to mind with not just this theme, but the way that it has been applied to the entire forum.

Firstly, the theme is regarded as being incomplete. My first issue with this is that an incomplete theme was applied to a production website, with neither an option to try out the new theme, nor revert to the old one until this one is stable and more attractive, despite the fact that the forum software provides an option to enable such functionality. However, an incomplete theme should not be applied to a forum as active as ARPD's, or any forum at all for that matter, until it is mature. To me, it's the equivalent of using a script with only an account system on a mainstream server instead of the test server, then adding local chat and vehicles over time.

Secondly, the theme seems poorly executed as a whole, and seems to be a theme refresh for a refresh's sake. Simply put, this theme just looks less visually appealing than the old theme that we had. The use of all-caps in the menu bar, along with a disproportionate amount of blank space in the header where the search bar could have gone, a lack of distinction between the background and foreground at times, and some haphazard CSS editing (e.g. loading the page will sometimes cause the old forum background to pop up momentarily) puts me off. While minor changes can be sent to Paul, this entire theme seems off-putting.

Lastly, while I like the slightly darker color scheme, there are some things that are just never okay when it comes to design, anywhere. For example, the use of bold, red text for the "Hello <name>" section conflicts terribly with the blue background, or how the user greeting area is placed below the news bar and mangled with the background. If we're going to keep this theme, this would be one of the first things I would fix.

There are almost certainly people who will enjoy a change of pace from the same old theme, and I appreciate the effort you're putting into making the ARPD forum better every day, but I think it could have been done much better.

Yeah :D As i said, I'm working on it. The only reason it's up right now is for Beta test for anything that needs to be fixed and such.
Hopefully it will turn out well as expected.

Indeed good idea. All of the updates look great Paul, the forum has been a lot faster recently, but I am not sure if that was part of your updates.

Well Ronnel did fix the speed a bit. And myself, did some maintenance work in order to keep the forum a bit tidy and fast + the theme.

Fixed the "Hello xx" text.

Not sure how it'd react, but it seems like the top menu might look a little better when not in all caps. That font seems very early-90's MS-DOS'ish when in all capitals. Don't hold me to that, though...but it seems like it'd look more fitting if it were just the first letter of every word capitalized instead. :cop:

As you can see the speed of the forums is improved, well that is the reason the more we stack up the forum, the more speed we are going to lose again.

I noticed similar issues in some places. I think it's just a missing code "include" in some sections.

I don't see any point of what you are trying to say at the moment.. because the forum is much faster than before. Putting modifications on a SMF forum does not change the speed unless it's something such as advertisments, etc..
Remember that the ARPD + Argonath / other affiliated services database are shared together.

Obviously you may say FBI forums are loading in a click.. that is a different story because it has a different database / host machine.

Indeed it is. I notice the advertisements are gone.

I also forgot that everything runs on the same box.. Its almost 4am here so I'm pretty tired..that may explain my lack of explaination...? Anyway, I do notice it is faster now....thanks :)

Ah...the image wasn't loading for me.

Those ads are supposed to be there. As previously stated several times, Gandalf wants ARPD's subdomain to bring in some revenue, just like the rest of the Argo websites, to help sustain the community and pay for it's costs without charging users.
