This may come to no surprise but I keep hearing the code '30' being used too much, sometimes unneccesarily.For example, today, someone was calling Code 30 for a fist fight inside LSPD. That was unnecessary. I think we need a new code for officer in a fist fight/melee attack.
If it's happening to me I use 'Urgent Assistance Required' not 'Code 30'.
Code 30 is for officer in serious danger and is not for a normal backup request. For normal backup we should have 'Assistance Required' for more serious backup 'Urgent Assistance' and For Major Backup Code 30.
I think a lot of it is to do with the codes and how vague they are.

For minor assault such as fist, we use code 3... proceed with lights and sirens

I do agree with Mike in saying that Code 30 is often over used sometimes. I'm not saying all the time, but it is over used.

When someone reports a Code30, I put it in front of all other assignments, yes, it does tick me off when I get there, and nobody is there. Especially when you ask in Radio where the Code30 is and everyone replies "Its been over for a couple minutes now." And nobody said Code4 in chat or anything.
It is overused definitely, but when it is used I respond even if I think it's a BS call.
I think there could be a code for urgent backup/assistance required, maybe Code 33, or the traditional 10-78 could work?

I've seen a guy report a code purple when there were 3 guys hanging out at their hood. That was totally retarded.
I agree that SAPD should enforce their codes a bit stricter so you get warned for reporting a fake code 3/30/purple red etc.

Don't say "Code 3 in progress" or "I'm in a code 3 situation" or "code 3" for when you're in a fist fight.
Code 3 is a response code. "I'm responding with code 3" "I am coming Code 3"
Code 3 isn't a situation factor/level, it's a response level.

responding code 3 means I'm comming with lights and sirens activates... AKA ASAP. You don't need to inform responding units to travel code 3, it is in fact redundant as it goes without saying when there is a oh **** situation going down... The code 1, 2 , 3 are there for informational purpose only. I never say I'm responding code 3... I keep it short and sweet, i'm responding... or i'm enroute. Maybe if an officer asks assistance I can ask how bad I need to get there depending on the situation... Unit blah, do you need me to respond "emergency" or AKA code 3?

We do also have freecops, they does not understand the police codes correctly.
So sometimes, they do not know how to apply these code rules correctly, so sometimes, we can expect a freecop calling incorrectly a situation by a different code, such as mentioned at replies above.
But actually, we should enforce cadets/officers/freecops(maybe) to follow these code rules and apply them correctly at cop duty, you can sometimes save someone life just by enforcing these rules.

Code 3 isn't a situation factor/level, it's a response level.
Code 3 = PROCEED WITH LIGHTS AND SIRENS.
You can say: I am responding with code 3, but you can always say "Requesting units, c3", which is not same as "serious" code 30.

Yeah you can say respond with code 3, that's fine.
What I meant was in response to your statement, how you were referring to a situation BEING a code 3.
A situation can't be code 3, but you can RESPOND to a situation Code 3, is all I was stating.

Code is used to sitrep someone or order someone with the requested backup importance...
"Request backup Marina Code 3" Available units proceed with lights and sirens.
"IMMIDIATE BACKUP Code 30" Means ALL available units AND those units performing trafic stops - giving tickets or any minor operation SHOULD proceed with code 3!
So i advice immidiate response to a code 30 ESPECIALLY when a higher ranked officer like Chief or Captain is reporting this code...
