SUBJ: Patrol/Crime Reports and the lack thereof

I would like to just post a memo regarding the importance of patrol and crime reports. It seems that our personnel are more interested in posting policy violation reports than patrol reports. Patrol and crime reports are important to the operations of our departments and the safety of our Officers.
Patrol and crime reports inform other Officers what type of crimes tend to happen at what time of the day, as well as general areas. If most reports are posted at 0200 CET in Idlewood, then the Officers reading the reports know to step up patrol in Idlewood at 0200 CET.
Patrol and crime reports also keep us updated for our safety. If a common name keeps appearing in reports, we know to use more caution contacting those subjects. Also seeing that many reports refer to Grove Street and murders, we can be more careful and prepared that we or others may be murdered in Grove Street.
Also, not to mention, if you are a Cadet, or an Officer seeking a promotion, posting patrol reports often gets you real noticed for those aspects. If you want attention for promotions, or to show you're doing your job, then post patrol reports.
Overall, patrol and crime reports are a large help for our own safety, and to provide assistance to our operations. I stress heavily the importance of these reports, and urge everyone to at least make a report once in a while.
Not everyone likes to type reports, and I understand that. However, if you understand the importance of the reports, making one patrol or crime report every 3-4 days is not much work at all. It only takes 5-10 minutes to post, and if you do it when you sign off, it's nothing.
Thank you for your time, and be careful when you go 10-8. You're a moving target out there, and I want to see everyone go 10-7 in perfect health. We're in this line of work to save lives, not lose ours.
