I think that Rory had a topic like this, but I couldn't find it. I actually knew this deputy, he was a member at my church. He was a good person and a great deputy. He knew I wanted to be a cop and he was glad but he always warned me of the dangers of being a LEO.god rest his soul.

Deputy Brian L. Mahaffey was shot and killed as he and other deputies attempted to serve a warrant at a residence on Sandhill Drive.
Shots were exchanged between the deputies and suspect when several of the deputies were inside the home. Although the home was searched, a bedroom closet had not been cleared. As Deputy Mahaffey opened the closet to do a search the suspect immediately began shooting. Deputy Mahaffey was struck by one round below his vest. The suspect, who was wanted for rape, aggravated assault, and kidnapping, was also shot and killed.
Deputy Mahaffey was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive. He became the first deputy killed in the line of duty since the 1900's.
Deputy Mahaffey had celebrated his 28th birthday the previous day, and had served with the agency for nearly five years. He is survived by his wife and two young children, his parents, brother, and grandparents.
