Police Aircraft being landed on the roads and pavements.
« on: July 25, 2014, 02:12:32 am »
Dear All,  :leroy2:

I am noticing a lot that there are Police Aircrafts constantly being landed on the roads and pavements.

I was under the impression that Helicopter units where there to provide the ground units with updates from the sky, and not just as a vehicle to intercept suspects.

The only safe landing spot for a Helicopter in Pershing SQ at-least is the pond, not on the roads or parked like a car as some do.

I have also noticed officers flying really low.

Both of these issues are serious and I think we need to bring an end to it.

Kind Regards,

OFFICER Monte Montague

I agree with you about the first thing, I hate it when people leave their police helis on the streets, sidewalks and even in the pond, I already suggested an idea which was denied, to return all police helis into the marked stations, where they took it from.
about the second fact of officers flying low, I am an experienced pilot and I know how to handle a helicopter, I fly low because that way the heli moves faster and it is better to keep the aircraft close to the escaping suspect it puts preasure on him which is great, I think I am one of the only pilots who fly low

I think landing a heli is just fine, because we cannot fly forever, and the heli pad isnt always free therefore we have to land somewhere else.

I think, Officer Monte, meant that police officers are abandoning the heli ,not landing somewhere and waiting for calls.. which I think is fine

No,

Officer Monte meant this.

I have many screens of many officers illegally landing a heli and just being plane stupid.
The Pond would be the only safe place to land in Pershing sq.
I couldn't care about abandoned helis, so long as they're not on the streets or in the pavements.

Hello Mr. Montague,

Thank you for sharing your valuable concerns. We want to let you know that the SAPD has cognize the developments and this type of matter are being discussed to bring an official settlement. However we will not disclose what steps will be taken to resolve such issues, beforehand we will work with the government officials to bring this persistent resolution and to comprehend the scope of the matter. At this point there is no effective official law that prevents us from landing in such zones you have mentioned, but if we find that our exercise in certain scenarios with police aircrafts have became an unprecedented issue to the public safety, then we will consider something reasonable.

Nexus D. Riggs,
SAPD Staff Sergeant.
