What are you chaps on about?

I see officers leaving their vehicles for no god damn reason, and pursuing suspects on foot, leaving their vehicles far away.

Officers should not do this, they should as much as possible, stick in their vehicles especially if the suspect is on foot. It gives an advantage. It's instant cover if that suspect turns around and shoots you. It's a ramming machine on a vehicle the suspect is heading to, which means you can ram it, then  pursue them on foot / shoot, / spray.  But don't forget, when you do this, you can still return to your vehicle and you will likely beat them if they're on foot!

Unfortunately I have seen this conduct amongst all ranks!

Please think about this when on your patrols.
Discuss.

It's more of a common courtesy thing, in my opinion.

You don't leave a cruiser out in the streets. We need them to be in the garages so we can use them for patrol.

If you decide to join another unit on their patrol, destroy yours so your colleagues can use your old cruiser. If you are killed in a response (it happens a lot), try to make your way back to the cruiser at your earliest convenience (if a code 30 is still going on, of course that has priority) and respawn it.

If you are patrolling, and notice you're running low on fuel, simply fill up the cruiser at a gas station. Don't leave it at LSPD and take another cruiser. If everyone filled up their own cruisers, it's only $200 an hour tops per cop. However, I find many cruisers will barely any fuel left (if any at all!) and I end up filling them up. Now, I don't really care about the money, but for me it's about the principal that you care more about a couple hundred bucks than your comrades.

If you have been patrolling and have to log off, simply drive to LSPD or take a minute to destroy your cruiser. If you know you will have to log off soon, start patrolling the general Pershing Square area so you're already close to the PD.

Adding to the topic though, I'd like to say that police helicopters, police bicycles and police motorcycles aren't just transport units to get from A to B. They're actually really helpful in policework. Often, bikes are spread all over the map and there is no way for a unit that wishes to go on bike patrol to quickly find a bike. The closest is often LVPD (sometimes DPD, if you're lucky). As for the helicopters, they're not for transportation either. If you wish to take one, take it to patrol the skies with it or to respond to a specific situation which requires an air unit. After that, return the helicopter to its designated helipad at its designated police department. If you do wish to get to SFPD quickly from DPD, please respawn the helicopter by simply plummetting it into the ocean and parachuting your way to SFPD.

This way, we have all vehicles at the locations we need them to be if the situation requires it. If a suspect is on a building, a helicopter is needed. Especially when Air Division is not on duty, a quick response is needed. Driving from Pershing Square all the way to SFPD to get a chopper will simply take too long.

So please, for the sake of being able to do our jobs properly, take care of the equipment we have. Don't leave vehicles in the streets for no reason.

EDIT:
To further make my point. If you are in pursuit with multiple units, each in their own seperate cars, and the suspect's car get destroyed (thus he's on foot), it's okay to get out and attempt to shoot him [do consider regulations and guidelines!]. However, since you're with multiple units, there's no need to endlessly keep running after the suspect. If he's getting too far away from your cruiser, return to it, drive past the suspect (so you're infront of him) and then make another attempt to shoot him [do consider regulations and guidelines!].

This way, the walk or run back to your cruiser won't be as long.

And in case you see an abandonned cruiser, please take a minute to respawn it. Respawning bikes, bicycles and helicopters can be a bit harder. However, when you enter said vehicle, it will show an ID. PM an admin if he could respawn it and most of the times, they'll do so.

If you think this issue is big now, you obviously forgot how wide spread this issue was in RS4.

No positive contribution to the thread.

Like the actual topic is any more of a contribution rather than just being made in the sake of complaining an moaning as people always do. You see an abandoned cruiser? Blow it up and respawn it. Problem solved. But noooo! Because making a topic about it is much more effective and positively contributes to the solution of the problem!

I, for one, have been actively trying to get people to respawn their cruisers in-game. I have yet to receive support from command staff in my efforts. This topic is a good way of showing what the problem is and, hopefully, receive some support.

It is a considerate issue, since response times plummet if there's no appropriate vehicles available.

This is about police cruisers, not FBI ranchers. Thank you for your input.

FYI, I used to be a ARPD and SAPD officer before too, I know what it's like. I just don't believe it's that much of a problem anymore due to decrease of police officers.
Yet, I still stand by the fact that a topic in ARPD forums will not work. Why? Most people who leave their police vehicles unattended in the middle of the city are mostly criminals who go on duty to earn money or just for the "lulz", or random passer by players who will not stay in Argonath for long, and they do not visit the ARPD forums. Hence why a topic here will not help as the people who see this already have enough common sense to either respawn the car or return it to the garage. If you want results, either make awareness in game, or create a topic on the main argo forum. It's more likely they visit that forum much more than this one.

Huntsman, I'm sorry to inform you, but your assumption is wrong. Leaving cruisers behind is something that happens along the whole list of ranks. Sure, new players do it more frequently but higher ARPD also seem to be doing it.

Remember this is still a roleplay server; In real life officers would neither leave their cars behind. They would park it back in the garage instead. That means, IG the best thing is to respawn it or park it back in the garage.
Just like in real life, vehicles should be ready for response whenever one is needed. I've had the problem enough times when there was a C30 with multiple officers down and I couldn't respawn because the damn garage was empty. Finding a clusterf**k of police vehicles at idlewood for instance when I'm enroute on a damn bmx.

Officers are always encouraged to return their cruisers back to the garage where they found them, but there are heavy restrictions server wise in which we cannot force anyone to return their vehicle. For example, if a player needs to be leave the server immediately, we cannot force them to stay in the game longer in order to return the vehicle. I do understand that this issue is hindering the daily operations of SAPD as certain times officers are unable to attain a PD vehicle from the garage when they want to head out for patrol or respond to a situation. Now a temporary solution to this issue would be to allow group leaders to respawn their group vehicles. For a better long term solution, this issue is to be thoroughly discussed with the ARPD Commissioner.

My thread was in response to officers leaving their vehicles in pursuits and then pursuing the suspect on foot whilst they have the upper hand when they stick to their vehicles!!

Driver should remain in the vehicle. Passenger can get out and pursue on foot, but they both shouldn't!

I completely agree with Monte here. It's been a big issue lately, if not always, that officers just take their cars to patrol around and when they pursue a suspect and he decides to flee on foot... Guess what?
Case 1: officer is alone, he doesn't decide to request backup, despite being unsure if the suspect is armed or not. He goes after the suspect on foot, gets shot to death and his car is left behind.
Case 2: two officers in one patrol vehicle chase a suspect fleeing in a vehicle. Once the suspect's on foot, they both exit their vehicle behind him and start the pursuit on foot...
Bam, the suspect manages to get into a vehicle because the driver of the patrol car didn't remain in to block him.

In Case 2 it even gets to happen that officers don't bother to go back to their car.
But majority of the causes of vehicles being abandoned is officers deciding to do something else and leaving the police vehicle behind.
...OR simply not being bothered to /q at the station with the car so next time they just spawn at Job.
