SAPD || Pre-conditions of using Deadly Force
« on: June 16, 2015, 23:35:15 pm »
Most of you guys don't know what the pre-conditions of deadly force are because it has never been taught in the SAPD or in Argonath. If you know your pre-conditions you can easily justify on why you have shot someone and this can be used in real life, any job, or your everyday life if you choose to carry a weapon.

OPPORTUNITY:  In order for a person to have the ability to inflict damage or serious bodily harm, he or she must be present or in place.

Just ask yourself this question: Does the person have the chance or opportunity to cause serious bodily harm or damage to you or others?

Yes - Ex: A person aiming a weapon at you or other.
No - Ex: A person is holding a weapon does not point the weapon at you or others.

CAPABILITY:  Capability would be present if the individual possesses the actual ability to inflict serious bodily injury/death.

Just ask yourself this question: Is the person capable to cause serious bodily harm or death?
Yes - Ex: A man twice your size is resisting arrest fighting you.
No - Ex: A man is unarmed while being challenged and you have a far enough reaction gap.

INTENT:  A hostile or dangerous person must clearly indicate the INTENT to cause damage to protected resources, or bodily harm to others.  Are they actually aiming a weapon or other dangerous object in a fashion that is capable of, and is obviously being used with the intention of, inflicting damage or serious bodily harm to persons.

Does the person have the intentions or mind set to cause serious harm to others or you?

Yes - Ex: A man is holding a knife or a gun and shouting "I'm going to kill you."
No - Example: A man is being challenged by an officer and has a weapon in his hands but does not point it or show any signs and complies with the officer.

Opportunity, Capability, and Intent you must have to answer all questions "Yes" to justify before using deadly force.

After watching this video explain why Chris Kyles decides not to shoot the little boy. Does the little boy have the Capability, Opportunity, and Intentions?

Interesting! You always hear about means, motive and oppertunity but that's ofcourse to determine whether a suspect is guilty or not, in court.
You never hear about the prerequisites for using deadly force.

Also I don't want to go off topic, but compare these elements to the Michael Brown and Freddie Gray cases.

"A 9mm can kill a Hydra, or Hunter ... that is fact, aiming at them = threatening behavior.
Do so in real life and watch what happens ..." -[R*]CBFasi
