[SA:MP] On the conduct of Officers in the Police Radio...
« on: October 02, 2011, 07:15:53 am »
Greetings.

I have been noticing more and more incidents of undesirable behavior in the police radio, both from Freecops (ARPD Officers) and SAPD Personnel. This is unacceptable, and should not continue. Let me remind you that the Argonath Administration and its members have all rights to monitor the Police Radio, and to remove the badges of Officers who continue to display excessively undesirable conduct in using /r. This is true regardless of your rank.

While you are still law enforcement officials of your respective Agencies with ranks and a chain of command to answer to, you are also Argonath Players and therefore under the jurisdiction of the Administration.

I am sure that some of you will be thinking immediately of the question "What is allowed then?". It will take too much time to make a full list, seeing anyone with enough brain cells will not need one. Instead, we can easily define what is not permitted in the Police Radio.

What is NOT allowed:
- Personal attacks on other officers. "Inside Jokes" are permitted provided they do not break server rules, as outlined by "No Flaming"; any inside jokes can appear offensive should be kept inside.
- Usage of /r for useless shit such as trolling and spamming. If you are desperate, you can do it in your own Department's CB radio at the risk of punishments from your own Command Staff.
- Shouting at other Officers with labels such as "suspect stealer". If someone steals your suspect, get an Admin. That's what we're here for.

If a lesser Officer, or ANY Officer for that matter does it to you, that does not give you the right to do it back to them. Fighting rulebreaking with rulebreaking will make you a rulebreaker yourself, and is the reason why we ban players who use hacks to fight off other hackers in the absence of admins.

The Administration does not demand that every player be loyal to Admins and follow the way of Argonath religiously. We simply ask that you have fun on the server within our rules, which are very, very simple. Many of our players can have fun without rulebreaking, and so can you.

Thank you, and have a nice rulebreak-free day.

On topic with this, remember to use professionalism while talking on the radio. Use police codes. Do not goof off! Remember also to not use smileys and such.

Disallowing the usage of smileys is a stupid rule. Simply think that they indicate the person's tone of voice, since most people can say a single word in a dozen ways.

Seriously, who came up with the rule that officers can't use smileys in police radio?

There is no such rule, as stated above, and no one should be forced to not use it. Sometimes even I use it, because it shows emotion - As you cannot use your actual tone of voice, to show emotion.

I believe it once came up in discussion if it was to be added, by phrasing it as 'refrain', but was decided it would not be included altogether. However what is not allowed through teachings of Academy, and well server rules also, is random spam - Includes flooding, completely random usage of text such as 'erqtwyha\Gheggggehghhehh', which is not needed on the police radio.

There is no rule prohibiting you to do so, so yes, no one can tell you not to use them.

And just note - any flaming / trolling seen on the radio CAN and WILL result in a copban. I've had to copban many people for doing such. Humorous jokes like in the SP police radio can be fine at times, but when it turns provocative, action will be taken.
