/su to update crimes - Don't do it!
« on: December 23, 2010, 21:07:56 pm »

  I have recently come across a problem from ARPD cops, and although I have not seen from SAPD, I hope to make you aware.

Scenario:

  Criminal A has 1 minutes remaining until escape.
  Criminal A has been suspected for evading
  Criminal A now has 5 minutes until escape.
...Criminal A has 2 minutes remaining until escape.
  Criminal A has been suspected for failing to stop
  Criminal A now has 5 minutes until escape.

  Some cops are using /su to stop criminals from escaping. Using the excuse "just updating the crime database", although sometimes it is obvious (they are intentionally abusing)  if the crime they are updating is the same throughout ...  :roll:

  Only time you should be re-suspecting is if you get it wrong the first time, and need to correct it (which should be done within about a minute). Using /su to stop criminals from escaping is not what the command was intended for and may be considered as abuse of the command, as it gives unfair advantage to cops.

  /su does not work like police database. It is intended only so you can track and trace serious criminals easier and have power to arrest etc.

  So, just be aware of this and if you see anyone doing it, please ask them to stop. This is a game - play fair.

Merry christmas

I agree the update /su for suspects will begin a loop of criminals vs cops thus making the server cops and criminals, however in some situation it is neccasary..

For example and this is the reason alot of SWAT teams get criticised...

Criminal A wanted for speeding
Criminal A joins a shootout with other armed men.

SWAT arrives and since criminal A is already suspected they start opining fire as criminal A is shooting.

Later on when criminal A gives up he takes screenshot of his crime, showing a SWAT team chasing him and arresting him or any member of the public (moaners) check the crime of that criminal, unaware of the situation they take screenshot and moan.

What do you do in this situation? Do you upgrade their crime to Shooting cops? do you just capture them and let them moan?

My take on situation? i have no time to upgrade the crime of a suspect whos shooting me, am lucky enough hes already suspected and that i dont have to do it, so i would just engage them and let them moan

I do agree with both these points, many people are simply abusing the system to chase people and also with Kenny's point about the shooting. It happens on such a regular basis now, people are attemtping to do anything to moan about SWAT and so on.

If people want to moan about SWAT, let them. There is no necessity whatsoever to resuspect someone. I trust a SWAT team is capable of judging which suspect is a direct danger to people.

Re using /su to increase runhowlong of a suspect has to be considered as script abuse. Then report and admins there would judge if it is or not a script abuse situation.

There should be like /updatecrime [id] || to update the crime without adding more mins onto their escape time.

I thought if you did /su <id> it didn't redo the minutes anyway.

@ Kenny. As long as there is sensible reason for /su then it is not a problem. If someone is speeding then joins in a big shootout, then the crime can be updated as it is much more severe and would be useful when investigating (so the crime is known).

  It's mainly a problem when crime is updated for similar or same reasons which are about equal in severity.

E.g. /su speeding, reckless, evading, not complying}
shooting, attacking, assault}

these for example are very similar and linked, so any resus is likely abuse.

  As for your scenario, if the players are trying to discredit SWAT on forums, a simple post outlying SWAT's reasoning would be enough. Any moaning ingame is usually ignored by me. Unless it is disrupting other players, then they get the boot.
