Our police radio
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:46:34 am »
What I am highlighting here are the issues I have, regarding the police radio.

Everybody knows that when you talk in the radio, people who are nearby and not in the same radio as you can see it in their local chat. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but a very common example of when this can be an issue is when you are near a group of armed civillians or gang members, outnumbered and outgunned. If you were to request backup in the radio they will obviously hear it and this leads to them having some sort of bad reaction. That is something that has happened to me quite a few times when I first started as a police officer and I'm sure I'm not the only person who's been in such a situation.

Here are my suggestions to prevent this from happening to other officers.

-Reduce or remove the range in which people can hear you speaking in the radio

-Have the following quick commands for officers in situations where they do not have enough time to type it all out (shootings specifically):

/code 30 or /c 30 "Officer [player] has reported a code 30 [at/inside location] any available units please respond, Over"

/backup [1-3] or /bk [1-3] "Officer [player] has requested code [1-3] backup [at/inside location] any available units please respond, Over"

To prevent spamming of this, messages should be restricted to once every 15 seconds. Please tell me what you think of these ideas and any your opinion on this situation.

Thank you

This really belongs in the idea section of the ArgonathRPG forums. But to be honest, it'd just cause a shitstorm in the public eye.

I'd advise just backing up further when reporting in situations like that to be honest, but it's all about the context of the situation.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast and fast is lethal.

I like the idea however, you can easily request backup a little bit further away from them so units can respond.

We usually have partners in our patrol, they can be useful in these cases. It's not needed for such script to be implemented as we can organize ourselfs with our patrol partners or actually have it ready for yourself. It will also give the police advantage at some points where it does not meet the criteria of the Argonath / SAPD Vision.

There are many solutions into this instead of getting scripts it, we need to put in the effort as much as we could.

You may suggest this in the Argonath main forums, but as i said, there are many solutions to such situations like these without the need of scripts. You just need to get yourself organized without any hassle.

I believe its fine how it is, if you want to call backup, you should get to a safe location where you're not very vunerable, then call in backup, using your words wisely, and not having a long sentence which will take you long to type.

This. The reason why codes exist is so the general public doesn't know what's going on. That's why no Agencies/Departments in the U.S. publicize them officially. The whole point is not only to get a quick message across, but to also conceal what is being said so the public doesn't try to get curious and become involved.
