Which one are you?
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:25:19 am »
In Argonath RPG, I see that there are two groups that every cop has a role in. I've been playing here for 3 years and I finally realized how many officers preform their duties differently in a way that sometimes may not always be right and may not always be wrong. This is the whole reason why we have arguments because we all have our own opinions over different issues. It's all matter of a prospective that men have to finally realize. In real life, we have two main political parties called the Democrats and the Republicans with that mentioned, in Argonath, we have two kinds of ways how officers present themselves in the line of duty and that is the "Rambo Cops" and "Extreme Roleplayers."

#1) Rambo Cops:

Positives:
-More physical action [Seeks more game action than reading words all day]
-Eliminates or Arrest more Suspects [Always tracking down suspects "Orange Dot" Hunting]
-Highly skilled in physical strengths [driving, shooting, etc..]
-Never avoids a combat and/or deadly situations

Negatives:
-Money Hungry [Cares for money instead of the people]
-Roleplay less [Fails to use /me]
-Avoids Investigations of Suspects

Basically, they are the ones who aren't afraid of the physical action of situations involving shoot outs, c30's, barricaded suspects, etc... Although when it comes to a roleplay situation they may leave or fail to roleplay with the person who is attempting to roleplay with them. However, the only time when they use the local chat is when they are ordering a suspect to surrender to the police. Once the suspect surrenders, they will request a transport unit to avoid the jailing process of the suspect. By avoiding the process they have more time tracking down more suspects and may shoot before asking questions. On patrol, when they see a traffic violator they may just straight suspect hoping they will just evade to chase them down. However, if they stop after they were suspect the officer will still attempt to take them to jail for the money. In fact, acting upon this extreme side may result in several punishments and most officers who act this way don't work very long in the Argonath Police Department. One last example, lets say the officer is responding with lights and sirens to a scene and hits someone on the way. The officer will just continue on and drive away like nothing happened when the civilian is attempting to roleplay. Then later, the officer receives a private message from the person they hit, and they want 2,000 dollars for the damages. Since they are a "Rambo cop" in reply they say that the pay n spray only cost 100 dollars. This is the best example I can put it on how "Rambo Cops" are. Finally, we have rambo cops everyday who come to hostage situations (207s) and breach the building and attempt to just kill the suspect hoping the suspect won't have enough time to react to physically kill the hostage. Again, in this situation they are avoiding the roleplay situation and using physical force as an answer.

#2) Extreme Roleplayers:

Positives:
-Roleplays with suspects [Ask questions first, shoots later]
-Not money hungry [Self-explanatory]
-Processes and Interview Suspects & More Traffic Stops [It involves roleplay]
-Creates a whole new fun roleplay

Negatives:
-Less physical power [Engages to roleplay more than use physical force]
-Suspects escape more [they don't orange dot hunt or barely engage pursuits]
-Possibly kidnapped more by criminals [Criminals seek a roleplay cop than a non-roleplay cop  to kidnap them]
-May not always be available to respond to scenes [Roleplaying requires a lot of time]

"Extreme Roleplayers" are basically the officers who take the time to roleplay situations thoroughly such as 207's, Bomb Threats, Terrorist Attacks, and other roleplay events.. In all means, they will avoid shoot outs and about any physical action in the game. They prefer roleplay action. These cops are the ones who never area a suspect in game, but if they come across one in a distance they may chase after. Most civilians and citizens like these kind of officers because they do seem a lot more friendly and that could lead to them being kidnapped more. However, the biggest down side is that when a fellow officer calls for backup they may not be available to respond to the scene because they are in a middle of a roleplay. The officer could be reported to the Argonath Police Department forums for failing to respond to a scene. Other than that there key in all situations is just to roleplay to the fullest. For example, if the officer is responding to a scene with lights and sirens and they accidentally hit another person. The officer chooses to roleplay and calls an ambulance etc... but the officer does not respond to the scene they initially were responding to because they go to the hospital for treatment. The officer chooses to pay the citizen the "roleplay" amount of damages of the 2,000 dollars unlike the "Rambo cop" who gave the citizen 100 dollars for the Pay N Spray. Do you finally see the difference between both extremes?

Which side do you fit more?

I understand that you can fit more towards the left, right, or maybe directly in the middle if you see both sides. Before I was writing this, in real life, we have what we call a political spectrum of politics basically we have the conservatives, republicans, moderate, democrats, and liberals. All those that I have mentioned is their own view and ideology of how they see the world. But with my view on the whole Argonath Nation, I was coming up with 5 views called Rambo Cop, The Pursuers, Moderate, Limited Roleplayers, and Extreme Roleplayers, but I ran out of ideas after I got the both extremes done. I didn't know how to tie the middle in together, so I hope we can all work on this spectrum to expand our future knowledge on how everyone works in the field. You may think that I may be out of my state of mind writing this whole post or you may think I just hit right on the money. So just please in a reply give me your ideas.

The future of the spectrum lies here, but I just need help how to conquer the middle portion of it.

And I do tend to get killed in C30 situations, although I've never been kidnapped

Well it all depends on how the situation is.
If i get shot at once i arrive at scene i wont hesitate to shoot back.
But if i arrive to anything that is not a shootout I belive i am very moderate.

To be very frank, I am part of the extreme roleplayers (recognized as such by many former SAPD member including Jerome Froyan and Webster aka Jay Hunter) since my reports are totally clean from "suspects neutralized" and "pursuits done" (I suck at shooting and driving).

Suprisingly, the negative points apply to me: Not always available to respond, suspects escape more, and kidnapped all the time.

really depends from the situation, but i usually tend to solve things by RPing, not by going cappin' all orange people.

Interesting one!
I'd put myself down as towards the "Extreme RP-er" section, and I'm sure I don't need to explain it to those people who've kidnapped me ;)

I see myself as a Limited Roleplayer.
But, as other people have mentioned it mostly depends on the situation.

Personally I don't like it when criminals instantly shout 'CUFF ME' when i attempt to 'RP arrest' them.
I would rather spend half an hour investigating someone,
instead of getting them to jail as soon as possible without any roleplay.
I consider the money I receive from arresting, downing suspects just as a small extra.
My main goal is to ensure the safety of the civilians,
thus disabling the suspects by arresting them or downing them if needed.

There are indeed big differences between the so called 'Pursuers/Rambo-cops and Limited- and Extreme Roleplayers'
Example:
the feeling you get after downing a suspect, but not 'having the killing shot'.
The one is 'sad' because they did not get to down someone and claim the money.
The other is 'happy' because the threat has been handled.

But in the end it's good that there are different sorts of people,
because if everyone would have the same opinion the world would be a boring place  :)

Yeah I definitely find myself more money-hungry when playing as a firefighter, as the stakes aren't as high and the goal is pretty straightforward. I've tried to RP arresting people or other things while there is action going on, and I have to say it is hard to do unless you are in control of the situation. The amount of time it takes to type /l Put your weapon down! or /me grabs him is enough time for them to take out a weapon and shoot you. Criminals just don't respect the RP aspect of the game, they are more focused on running, killing, and going out in a blaze of glory.

Same one as FBI Agent DiNozzo, more in the middle and a extreme good RP'er but I also use /area to much.

Very interesting, although I think it may be a bit arbitrary as there are so many factors to take into account of. :)

At the same parts of the scale may be well representative of people's overall response to most situations. I'd say I more towards the right, considerably, though I enjoy a good amount of action, getting the job done correctly and swiftly, I don't like shying away from fast paced events.

I think I actually like this job above many others due to the mixture of things that you face.
