Author Topic: MERGING ARPD WITH ARGONATH RPG MAIN SITE (Read 7014 times)

Hello ARPD,
I was thinking that it would be a good idea to merge the ARPD site + Forum with the Argonath RPG site + Forum.
They could be connected by tabs etc.
Wouldn't it be simpler if they shared the same username & password as they are two sister sites in general terms.
Wouldn't it make more sense if these were combined by one login?
At the moment, we need 3 logins for pretty much the same sites; 1 for Argonath RPG Main Site, 1 for Argonath RPG Forums and 1 for ARPD. Are all these logins really needed? Wouldn't it be much simpler to have a common login for all?
They don't need 2 different domains, both of them even look alike.
They are all Argonath RPG sites after all.

1. Sites physically merged, no.
2. Tabs, agreed.
3. Argo RPG Main and forum sites used to be linked, but were separated due to a bug. I agree that those 2 and the Argo RPG account databases should be merged.
4. They both used to use the .com domain, but I have no idea why the main Argo site/forum uses a .eu one now. I agree that they should both be back on the .com domain. They may have separated them due to the load on one domain combining both sites with one webhost. Unfortunately it would be very, very difficult to get separated webhosting for the domain itself, and it's subdomain. Maybe the ARPD site should be at ARPD.Com lol...
5. Adding to this, I'm opening the discussion back up about the ARPD site not being updated. Even the Argo main site/forums got an update recently, yet the ARPD site still gets left behind. I know, Kaltsu, that you are busy, but maybe it's time you assign some people to assist you so you aren't on your own anymore.

About news : Kaltsu recently said that he has a bit problems with his Joomla! account on ARPD Forums, so he needs help getting it back with Aragorn or Gandalf.

Actually, Aragorn and Gandalf themself are having troubles with the "Joomla!" accounts, but they should be fixed as soon as they retrieve back their information.
Soon site will be updated and new changes would come.

Main Argo forum and ARPD forum, you don't have to login to ARPD site to enter forum.

Yes, by merge I do mean tabs as stated in my initial post. We can't literally merge them as ARPD is a society/group/etablishment based inside Argonath RPG, it's not Argoanth RPG itself.
Also, like SugarD said, this site does need to be updated, but we must remember, the guys that run this site are all volunteers, we don't pay them to do this! Also, if ARPD needs anyone extra to do any onsite/ingame work, I am free. I am quite experienced in programming, scripting and website works. I will be more than happy to help.

And about the 3 logins, we don't have to login to ARPD main site to get into the forums, you are correct, but we still need 3 logins because ARPD Main Site and Forums share the same login (1), then Argonath RPG Main Site Login (2) and Argonath RPG Forums (3). It's not compulsory to have a login with Argonath RPG Main Site to access the forums, but if you wish to do so, you can. So in total, we need 3 logins (if we join all the sites).

I am also available for website assistance if needed. I helped set up the SATP site+forums along with Eddie, Smey, and John, and I believe my personal Battle.Net clan's website is listed in my profile if you want an example of my work. Like I keep repeating, THIS SITE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED!

What do you mean? How would this become a hassle to find the forums?

And it wouldnt be difficult, its just adding a new tab to the Argonath and ARPD forum.

Well, you can use the same username and password each time but you still have to validate 3 different sites. You must sign up again each time.
There is a function called Remember Password, so you shouldn't need to login each time.

Indeed.

If merging will mean that we use the same profile information, then that's another reason why I don't support this idea. In the ARPD forum, you would not necessarily use the same signature, avatar and other such things as with this forum. There is also the issue of the forum ranking system as the ARPD one is totally different to what we have here. However, if this is not the case, I still don't see a valid reason for merging the forums.

Well, think about it for a second; a simple question of how can I become an ARPD Cadet rather then a freecop can be solved with a simple answer of; "Google ARPD forum" and hey presto, they are away, if your new to this whole kind of community, putting in a tab to an already massive forum will make finding our forum an extra hassle. I hope you see my point a bit clearer? Also, Kitsune has brought up some valid points above.

Wouldn't ONE BIG forums make all, you know, messy? It would be so big, so we couldnt understand where is what. Well, actually maybe for us it would be simple, but new players? I mean new player is surfing the Argo forums, but then he sees ARPD forums, trys to enter it, but, of course, he has no rights to do it, he gets a bit confused, finds a help section(which may be difficult) and flood it with "what the heck?". One forums means a lot of sections = something like labyrinth. Also i agree with Kitsune.

Guys, you are repeating previously said points and I would reccomend you read the previous posts. It doesn't mean we literally merge two forums!! There's a topic on this on Argoanth RPG Forums as well. Some of you are missing the point, we just tab the 2 sites and have them share the same login information and some profile information.

And, Kitsune, first of all, nice copy and pasting. Secondly, I have already given you a reply on Argoanth RPG Forums.
