Teamspeak vs. Ventrilo
« on: June 10, 2009, 19:23:13 pm »
I have been using both Teamspeak and Ventrilo for about 4-5 years now. I must say I am very impressed with Ventrilo, and very dissatisfied with TeamSpeak.

TeamSpeak was a great program before I knew about Ventrilo. Ventrilo has such a nicer codec which brings your voice across clearer to other players, Cutting down on other people not being able to understand you. Ventrilo also has less security issues, and bugs than TeamSpeak.

I guess I am proposing that the ARPD move their communication server to Ventrilo, rather than TeamSpeak. I know this will be a hard decision, but it would be the best decision ever made.

In ventrilo, you can do a number of things.

1. Grant access to channels without granting CA, SA, or having to type a password.

2. Create accounts and grant access rights, while in the server.

3. Arrange channels easier. Post comments next to your name.

4. Identify players as soon as they join. (Microsoft Sam: "AMahone has connected" or "AMahone has joined the channel".)

5. Message of the Day pops up when players connect.

TeamSpeak is such a hassle to use, in all honesty, I wonder why anyone still uses TeamSpeak.

im not a regular user of teamspeak, only for cases ingame

but i must say i dont like it also, dont know how ventrilo is though

some ppl are good to understand, but most of the time you dont hear the others good
its really annoying, but its the official place we use, so that has to change before i will change

Argonath has always used TeamSpeak.
TS is much, much easier to get to grips with for new people, as it has less settings and options to mess around with.
Vent is also ridiculously quiet, with no apparent output volume settings.

I'd also hate to have to go on Vent (which I hate) and then TS3 is released to outclass Vent in every way (which of course it will).

TS3 has been a dream for over 4 years now to no avail. The interface will still be bad and the codecs will still be under par compared to Ventrilo. People like TS because you can host it for free. Vent is a much better program.

I dont get why people is stuck with TS. Its crap, straight trough.
Its not "easier" or anything then Ventrilo, imo Ventrilo was much "newbie" friendly then TS were.
And yeah, TS has been cheaper and sometimes free to use then Ventrilo, but trust me, Ventrilo is worth the money.

I have never had a problem with TeamSpeak that wasn't my own fault. The program works for what is needed: A voice-chat program that allows users to register so they may use the appropriate channel. Vent is nice and all, but we don't need all the extra features.

No amount of talk in here will get the shift from TS to Ventrillo..

Heres why

As SAPD/ARPD we have no bearing on the owners use of the servers, they have a server dedicated to TS use, its going to be whatever they choose..

We have no problems with TS so there is no need to move. TS3 will be great to.

What is all this talk about TS3? I will only use TS for special operations. Its laggs me out, and causes my game to crash more. Sometime when people talk, i hear , da da da da da da then cant hear the rest of their sentence. Som lag problem. It may just be my new Dell Computer....ya think??? I don't know, but no worries.

its not your PC shawn, i dont got that da dad ada dadada
but i cant hear voices good enough except a few,
but ventrilo is paid so that kinda sucks though

but in important situations its really easy that you dont hear an order good,
and you think of something else and that screws it up

Vent is also ridiculously quiet, with no apparent output volume settings.

No offense, but either you are completly blind or used a very very old version.
It shows clearly in "settings", both outbound and inbound, and has a numerous of other volume controls and so on.

Yeah, probably just more crap to the people. TS has never been near the quality of Vent, and will never be either.
You get what you pay for.

I hosted a 75 slots ventrilo before, down to 10 now because i didnt want to keep it up.
But if there is interest in trying out Ventrilo i can gladly host it. Server located in UK atm so it should fit the most people.

Probably the old version thing, since there are absolutely no volume sliders in the entire program, I did check all settings.

This is pathetic, VENTRILO WILL NOT BE USED :ban:

Get used to it, no amount of people for Ventrillo and against Teamspeak will change the client. Deal with it...

First of all, get used to the name "Ventrilo", please. :)
And as i have suggested, use both! I can host a server if none else can/want/whatever. And those who want Ventrilo simply go there and those who want to be stuck in Teamspeak, let them be there and have thier fun then!
We can make both parts happy this way, im sure you Teamspeak users would have wanted the same way around if Argonath had a Ventrilo server instead of Teamspeak.
