Deputy Robert Clenny
Harris County Sheriffs Office
Texas

Biographical Info
Age: 38
Tour of Duty: 11 Months.....

Incident Details
Cause of Death: Automobile accident
Date of Incident: Sunday, October 4, 2009
Weapon Used: Not available
Suspect Info: Not available

On Saturday, an off-duty Precinct 3 Deputy was killed after his personal vehicle was rear ended. It happened around 11:40 pm on South Main and Pin Oak in east Harris County.

Harris County Sheriff's investigators say Deputy Robert Clenny was not wearing his seat belt when he rounded a curve and was struck by another car traveling along side him.

"The roads were wet, it was raining, and it spun him into on coming traffic and he was hit head on," said Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones.

Jones believes the 38-year-old was killed on impact. The driver of the pickup was not hurt, but the driver of the other car sped off .

"He was very proud to be a precinct three deputy constable, it was his life long dream to be a police officer," said Clenney widow, Denise.

Clenney had only been a Precinct 3 deputy for 11months. His wife said, he put off training for a career in law enforcement until later in life to care for his ailing father.

"He was a good officer, a very dedicated officer. He didn't mind working over when needed or any need for the department he was there to help," said Jones.

Jones went on to explain that Clenney was helping out another deputy at the time of the crash. He had agreed to fill-in as a security officer at a nearby I-Hop for his co-work too sick to work that night. Now, his young widow is pleading for person responsible to come forward.

"Everything happens for a reason and even if it was an accident, please come forward. I am a forgiving person I don't hold grudges and neither did Robert, Robert never held grudges," said Denise Clenney.

She said her husband was a man of strong faith and a proud father to two young daughters.

"The hard part is how am I going to tell my girls their dad is gone," she said.

Clenney said she is relying on her own faith to get through this difficult time.

"I'm very lucky that I had the time that I did with him."

Precinct 3 Constable's Office has established a fund to help raise money for Clenney's family. The deputy only carried a basic life insurance policy through the department and was the sole provider for his family.

If you would like to donate to the Robert Clenney fund call the Precinct 3 Constable's Office at (281) 427 ?4791.
