Bikes
« on: April 10, 2007, 20:10:56 pm »
Do anyone else agree on removing all bikes ?
Its impossible to stop someone on a motorbike or a mountain bike (any bike) without help from many others because ramming doesn't work at all and they take no damage.
I believe 5 cops spending 40min for a suspect on a mountain bike is not worth it when those 5 cops can take care of one criminal using a normal car or on foot alone.

And what I find most annoying is that all bikers, especially the mountain bikers tend to go back and forth and jump over you and your car and we can't do any damage to the vehicle or the driver ( or is that just me not being able to)

what happens if someone want an escort for an event? , what happens if someone needs rapid response? what would be the point of having the biker cop skin? many more questions follow. and prbably they must be answered before they remove the bikes, which is very unlikkey.....

mountain bike, no doubt- take it off- completely unrealistic and unnecassary.

NRG is overkill, however I think some solutions to these are

1. Turn bike skill/ cycle skill to 0 (so suspects fall easier/ harder to control)
2. Make squad cars and cop bikes faster (however not unrealistically fast) my flatkeyboard doesnt let me tap down to make the bike go faster, so just speed them up a bit!

I dont agree to removing the bikes, for most the reasons already posted  :)

^Updated!!
However yes!!!! we can pop tyres in v0.2! (The best tactic!)

I believe the problem with bikers will be partly solved in 0.2, where you can pop the tires...

I was thinking about the possibility of using stingers/spike strips ::)
There was one mission in SA single player where you used spike strips to stop a car..

yes spikes would be very cool but only ARPD members can use them, yes mountain and bmx bikes need to be taken off, I chased Clifford around from 90 minutes and gave up, he was never cought by a cop after my pursuit he just kept on jumping over me and other cops

Actually, I heard that the spikesptrips are available in 0.1b already, as objects. But they are useless until 0.2 is released...

How would the spike strips deploy? I have only seen them in action on VC.
(on singleplayer SA i never got close enough to see cops and spike strips)

Mountain bikes suck ina  police chase....
Motorbikes are do-able though, ramming DOES work, at the right angle :)

Well, I don't know if it was possible to use some animation for laying the spike strips, but atleast I guess one way would be just to make a command e.g. /layspikes, and then the spike strip would spawn next to you.

yeah that will work, although they should only spawn for a few seconds so some skill is involved, or they wii be flooding the map like in grove and pershing square  :D

this will be good with the Spike Strips, also i dont find it hard to take down people who are using bikes, just ram the crap out of them, use road blocks, its not hard..

Thats why i think the bike skill and bicycle skill should be reduced to 0, so suspects fall easier.

Your missing the point  ??? Most citizens cannot ride a bicycle at 40-50mph and jump over SWAT vans and buildings. I cant, and i doubt a fat Jeremy Clarkson lookalike could. Bicycles are totally unrealistic, and in a sense the "skill" level is for motorbikes.
I have never seen anyone stay on a bike after doing 720degrees spin after landing a dodgy jump and not falling off. If you are a good citizen biker, you will not need to travel to the extremes on a bike, abd shouldnt fall off.
